Get Your Budget Logos With DesignCrowd (Maybe)

DesignCrowd is a community-driven design service with a substantial network of over 1,100,000 designers eager to create your logo.

DesignCrowd offers a wide range of design services, including logos, business cards, T-shirts, website designs, cartoon characters, and even envelope designs. With such a comprehensive list, it’s likely that DesignCrowd can handle just about any design request you have.

The platform supports English, French, Spanish, and German, and you can have a logo created in almost any language. All their packages are paid, with no free options available. However, their pricing is quite reasonable (more on that below).

But will DesignCrowd deliver the logo you need at a price you can afford? Would you get a better deal hiring a designer on Fiverr for $5? Or will you end up with a high-quality logo that elevates your company to the next Amazon?

The answer to the last question is no—only you can achieve that level of success. However, after testing DesignCrowd while searching for the best new logo for Website Planet, I do have answers to the other questions.

And it’s worth noting that the logo I received from DesignCrowd won the competition and is now the official logo for our site. That speaks volumes.

You’ll Find Everything You’d Expect from a Site Named “DesignCrowd”

However, it’s not exactly what you’d call “simple.” I hate to say it, but the DesignCrowd user interface is more complex than many legal contracts and might be a bit more confusing than economic theories. Math still remains my arch-nemesis, though.

To start, you can post a “project” for designers to consider. The number of designers who respond will depend on the design package you choose for your logo project. DesignCrowd’s website doesn’t explain these projects very well, so let’s break it down.

The most basic package, called the “One Designer Service Project,” lasts for seven days, covering the time from selecting a designer to finalizing your logo. You can either have DesignCrowd select a designer for you or choose from the available designers yourself. For our test, we opted for this package and added the “Top Designer” option to ensure a highly-rated designer was chosen for us.

The next level is the “Mini Contest,” which involves a one-day submission period to receive three designers’ proposals, followed by a seven-day period for final revisions. This package is available only to designers with a minimum rating of 2.75 stars and a 75% positive feedback score. You can’t invite specific designers to this contest.

The third, fourth, and fifth packages are the more expensive “Contests.” These involve a seven-day submission period where any number of designers can enter, followed by a seven-day period for final revisions. You can also invite specific designers to participate. Regular contests are open to all designers and are designed to foster competition. You can run polls, interact with designers, and create excitement around your project, unless you opt for privacy add-ons.

DesignCrowd’s extensive designer community means you can get a logo in almost any style. The number of design options available to you will depend on your budget, which also affects:

How quickly you receive logo submissions (typically a few days)

How long your project remains open

How many revisions you can request

How often your family questions if it was worth the expense compared to a cousin’s MS Word designs

In the end, you receive the following deliverables for any logo you choose:

1 EPS vector file, which is scalable and compatible with any vector program, like the free Inkscape

1 large JPG file for high-quality documents

1 small JPG file for web use

1 PNG file for web use

The original source file, usually an AI (Adobe Illustrator) vector file, which is also scalable but requires Adobe Illustrator, a costly program

You can review potential designers’ histories, past work, and ratings before starting a project. DesignCrowd provides this information even if you haven’t yet initiated a project.

DesignCrowd’s Community Is Its Greatest Asset

DesignCrowd features

Like many online platforms, DesignCrowd relies on its vast community to handle the actual work, produce the designs, and bring traffic to the site. The platform itself acts as a facilitator or middleman, connecting clients with a sizable pool of over 700,000 designers. While it’s not the largest community out there, it’s big enough to ensure you’ll likely find a designer that meets your needs.

You Can Pay Extra for (Almost) Guaranteed Higher Quality

Since DesignCrowd operates as a community-based platform, the quality of designers varies. I haven’t encountered any truly “bad” designers, but you won’t fall in love with every logo you receive. Some projects are simply more appealing or higher-paying, which tends to attract better designers. If you directly invite a designer to your project, you have to wait and see who’s interested in working with you. Smaller, lower-budget projects can sometimes be at a disadvantage, as they may not be as enticing to some designers.

To balance this, DesignCrowd offers a “Top Designers” add-on. With this feature, the platform assigns a highly-rated designer to your “One Designer Service Project” or three top designers to your “Contest” (mini or regular). While you don’t get to choose which designer(s) will work with you, the option may be more affordable than hiring a top designer directly, depending on their rates.

You Can Keep Your Projects Private

DesignCrowd offers several add-on features for any project if you’re willing to pay extra. One useful option is the ability to keep your project hidden from search engines, competitors, and other clients.

You can also safeguard your project with a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), ensuring that your designers won’t disclose any details about what they’re working on. This is ideal if you want to keep your new logo under wraps until you’re ready to reveal it.

DesignCrowd Hosts Design Contests Just for Fun

There was once a site called Worth1000.com that ran photo manipulation contests purely for fun. Although the site no longer exists, its community has merged with DesignCrowd, and the contests continue today.

For designers, these contests are a fun way to participate and earn points on a global leaderboard, which is always great for bragging rights.

For customers, these contests can help you discover talented designers who excel at Photoshop. If that’s important for your project, be sure to check out the contests in addition to browsing designer portfolios.

EASY OF USE |4.8| ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

DesignCrowd is designed to be user-friendly, providing an intuitive experience for both clients and designers. The platform allows clients to easily post design projects by filling out a straightforward brief that details their requirements and preferences. This simplicity streamlines the process of launching a design contest or hiring a designer for specific tasks.

Clients can review design submissions through a clean, organized interface with integrated feedback and revision tools. Secure file sharing and messaging facilitate smooth collaboration, ensuring efficient handling of project details. DesignCrowd’s user-friendly design simplifies project management and design selection.

DesignCrowd Could Be Much Easier to Use – But It Could Be Worse

Navigating DesignCrowd’s user interface feels a bit like returning to an old neighborhood after being away for years. You generally know where you want to go, but the specifics can be unclear. Plus, it feels like there are buttons everywhere, with everyone trying to sell you something.

The overwhelming number of options can make the UI confusing, and it’s not always clear what your next step should be.

One aspect that tripped me up was understanding the difference between a project and a contest. (The website doesn’t explain this well, so I had to reach out to customer support.) To clarify: a project is the overarching term that includes a “One Designer Service Project,” a “Mini Contest,” or a regular “Contest.”

Another issue is the help center. It could be more intuitive since advice for clients and designers isn’t separated. I found it easier to search for answers through Google by typing “DesignCrowd [my keywords].”

Additionally, some parts of the site feel outdated. For example, the footer links to “Design bids,” “Design jobs,” and “Design crowdsourcing,” which are no longer relevant. In the help center, what used to be called “Design jobs” is now referred to as “Freelance Jobs.” Ignore those old references.

Once you get used to navigating the site (and maybe do a bit of Googling), things will start to make sense. It’s not as challenging as trying to get started with a complex system like India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) portal, but there’s a learning curve.

You Can Save Your Projects Until You’re Ready to Launch

This is a crucial feature that I always appreciate. You can save a project and return to it later, whether it’s to gather funds, finalize your ideas, or polish up your brief. This can save you a lot of hassle and gives you more flexibility to work at your own pace.

Maintaining a Project with a Designer You Like Is Simple

Once you’re working with a designer, the UI conveniently shows other services they offer. This is a small but useful feature if you want the same designer for multiple projects, which helps maintain a consistent look across your branding. You can easily find this option by clicking the “Manage Project” button for the specific project.

DesignCrowd’s buttons make rehiring simple

There’s a Handy “Designer Finder”

You can filter through designers based on the services they offer, their location, ratings, earnings, or projects won. Although it’s a basic filtering system, it’s enough to help you find, for example, a designer in your time zone with at least a four-star rating.

However, not all designers are the same, and if you haven’t paid extra for a “top designer,” the quality might vary. There doesn’t seem to be a vetting process for designers, so the community handles much of the quality control, which can sometimes lead to unsatisfied clients.

You can browse available designers without creating an account, but you’ll need to log in to post a one-on-one project or launch a contest.

When starting your project, it’s important to have a clear vision of your goals. Designers at DesignCrowd deliver quick turnaround times while considering your requirements. However, you’re expected to work efficiently as well, as you only have a limited window of a few days to request revisions and finalize your logo.

How long does a DesignCrowd project take?

Initial Submissions: Typically, you can expect to start receiving design submissions within 24 to 48 hours after launching the project.

Contest Duration: The contest duration for a standard project is around 3 to 10 days. You can extend the contest if needed, but many projects are completed within this timeframe.

Revisions and Finalization: Once you’ve selected a design, you may need a few days for revisions and final approval. This can add 2-7 days, depending on the designer’s responsiveness and the number of revisions.

DesignCrowd Logos

DesignCrowd offers a comprehensive logo design service through crowdsourcing, allowing businesses to access a global network of designers. When you launch a logo project, you provide a brief that outlines your business, style preferences, and design requirements. Designers from around the world submit logo concepts, often within 24 to 48 hours, and you can receive anywhere from 10 to over 100 submissions, depending on your budget. You can give feedback on each design to request changes and fine-tune the logo until it aligns with your vision. Once you select the winning design, you’ll receive the final logo files, including common formats like PNG, JPG, and vector files.

On average, logo design projects on DesignCrowd can cost around $150, though pricing can increase based on project complexity and the number of submissions desired. Ultimately, DesignCrowd provides an affordable and efficient way for businesses to get a custom logo from a diverse pool of creative talent.

Is DesignCrowd Worth the Money?

Overall, DesignCrowd offers solid value, especially with its quick turnaround times. While custom logos from top designers and agencies can run into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, DesignCrowd’s popular plans cost just a fraction of that, delivering multiple designs within a few days.

PayPal, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa are accepted forms of payment.

The main difference between pricing tiers is the number of designs and designers you’ll have access to. All plans offer the same core features, but the more expensive plans provide more design options and include unlimited revisions.

The top two tiers also come with business card designs, and they’ll highlight your project to make it stand out. The most expensive plan gives your project extra visibility, allowing you to get more designs more quickly.

which logo package do your prefer

Honestly, I’m not convinced the most expensive plans are worth it. Sure, if you want 100-150 logo options to choose from, it’s available—but who really has time for that? Okay, maybe I do, but that’s not the point.

Once you’ve purchased your logo, the deal is sealed. You might be able to sweet-talk your designer into giving you an extra revision or two, but that’s about it.

Luckily, there’s a money-back guarantee. If you’re not happy with any of the designs, you can request a refund within 30 days, and you’ll get your project budget back, minus some fees. Just keep in mind, refunds aren’t available if your project is marked as “Guaranteed” (meaning you’ve committed to choosing a winner).

Lastly, there are discounts! They’re easy to overlook, but I won’t let you miss out. At the bottom of almost any page on DesignCrowd’s website, there’s a “Popular Pages” section. Click on the DesignCrowd discount link, and you might just hit a savings jackpot.
